1920s Hilarity

1920s hilariy indeed!
This is a clip from the musical "Good News" Set at an American Univeristy in the 20s
And yes, this post is indicative of my University Essay procrastination.
What is there even to say about this clip, apart from the fact that the main girl appears to be on acid.
Hope everyone's well and this brings you all chuckles as it did me.

One can dream.

Hello there world,
We haven't posted in a while as we've both been snowed under by university work and our jobs. Today is my first day off this week and instead of writing my essay, I'm procrastinating with property hunting. Some friends and myself are looking to move out in about 8 weeks (exciting!) and so I've been attempting to keep a beady eye fixated on the property market.
While we'll be student-range renting, one can dream. It's healthy right? RIGHT?

So I moved across to places for sale opposed to rent... And was just browsing.....

Seriously fate, how could you give me this? And then make me a poor student?
At 4.1 million Australian dollars we're talking 4.23 million US or 2.72 million GBP.
Definitely in my budget. You know how people talk about long lost relations dying and leaving vast sums of money? If mine exists, now is the time!
Can you imagine the photos? If I was rich enough to buy this house I'd invite you all for a massive party! And while the current owners have awkwardly put new furniture in, the right antiques would make this home amazing, all the original features are sitting untouched.

Anyway,
One can dream
Have fun drooling as I did.

On another note, the full Gatsby soundtrack is available. OMNOMNOMNOM

New friends

Hi there world,

I'm going to attempt to write this post without sounding really pretentious.
In the end, what I'm trying to do is deconstruct the Internet image of us.
Why?
This year we have made two great new friends who both, on first meeting, somewhat sheepishly admitted to us that they read the blog. My question is, why sheepish? We are super thrilled that anybody bothers with our ramblings and while yes I suppose that means you know more about us than we do about you, isn't that the nature of the Internet these days?

What prompted me to post about it? The other night I ended up feeling like a stalker. I was waiting on a train platform in Sydney and a lady roughly my age walked past. She was wearing brogues and a green 40s dress and had her hair done... Basically, I wanted to be her friend.
I promise it wasn't as creepy / voyeuristic as it sounds.
She made eye contact with me and smiled but then hurriedly walked away. I tried to get on the train near her to make friends but then it got weird and we were too far away and I ended up just feeling really creepy.
While this is now self-indulgent to think that she reads the blog, incase she does I wanted to say we should be friends. Particularly if we commute on the same train line.
I promise we're not intimidating,
We're massive goof balls.

To lighten the mood and prove that we love new friends, check out our new friend Eloise, we met her at the vintage fair and have since become swing dancing and pie buddies!
You can expect to see more of her here as well, Jesse's very excited to meet her cat and we are planning on asking her to write a post!

Upcoming Events: Old Bus Depot Markets in Canberra

Have you heard the news Australians?
Something new and exciting is going on down in Canberra next weekend.
A brand spanking new markets have been put together, called the Old Bus Depot Markets, and they'll be held on Sunday the 21st of April.

At the markets themselves, you'll be able to find a range of products from typewrites to desk lamps, old antique furniture to funky psychedelic threads.

Diane Hinds, the Market's Director, invites you to "join us for a unique trip down memory lane- you're sure to find something to love and with its own story to tell."

If you're keen for a road-trip you should definitely make a weekend of it and get yourself to Canberra. Tim and I are unsure as to whether work and Uni will permit us a Saturday off, but if so we'll definitely be there!

But more importantly if you are interested,

The facts are these:
Where: Old Bus Depot Markets, Wentworth Ave Kingston, Canberra
When: Sunday 21 April 2013
Time: 10am-4:00pm
Cost: FREE

Look at all these goodies!! Brooches!

Pretty damn funky if you ask me!
Have a lovely week chilluns.

Jesse and Tim

Old Hat's April picnic

Hi there friends,
Recently our vintage themed social group met up for a picnic on Easter Monday. Regrettably it was a relatively small group but there was good company and good food, so what more does one want? Given the public holiday and dodgy weather we still had a good turn out!
Guests included Regan, Harvie, Mira, Emma and Simon, And newcomers Jess and Sarah.
Here are some photos, and as you can see the sun came out in the end:

Emma and Simon perching picture-perfect on the extravagant rug assemblage (sounds a bit rude!)

The ever-dashing Harvey

The lovely Mira

Mira's cat shaped lemon and lavender cookies

Apologies for this photo... It took a lot of concentration to get a macro shot of a cracker with dip... So I'm going to show you all

Mira's cat socks which Jesse got very excited about

Jesse being adorable

The newcomers Jess and Sarah

Regan being a dealer (of cards... We played card games)

Twenty One

About a week ago, I turned 21. And no joke, I had the best birthday week of my life. Not only was I spoilt rotten by all those around me, but I dined on some of the best food in Sydney. There were numerous dinners and cocktails and plenty of ridiculously awesome presents. But I thought I'd summarise it, and show a few of my birthday outfits (very important stuff) and meals (even more important, obviously).

1. Birthday Breakfast at Bills with Timothy:

Wearing my Birthday suit: Collectif knit top and Vivien of Holloway pencil skirt.
Also carrying my ridiculously awesome new Prada bag ( I know, settle down) from my family.

I ordered my favourite meal of all meals: Sweetcorn fritters.

And Timothy got the Fluffy Ricotta hotcakes. So Fluffy.

A WHOLE STACK of Birthday Books and Cookbooks from Timothy, as well as a few Besame cosmetics. He sure does know what I like!

...and possibly the best Birthday present of all time. I died. This is my ghost typing right now.

2. Birthday Dinner at Chiswicks with the Fam:

With my Bombe Alaska, wearing a Stop Staring dress, and beautiful birthday brooch.

3. SECOND Birthday Dinner at Porteno with Timothy:

Wearing my Birthday present from Timothy; a 1930's wristwatch. It's sort of getting ridiculous at this point. How am I so lucky?

Look at this handsome gent!

Clutching my 'Cinema Highball' with real buttery popcorn while wearing a Bettie Page dress.

The long awaited dream was finally fulfilled! Words cannot describe how wonderful dining at PorteƱo was. You'll just have to go there and experience it yourself. Also, make sure you order the Brussel Sprouts. They will change your life.

*drools*

4. Birthday Dinner and Boogie with the friends at El Bulli:

Myself, wearing another Bettie Page dress, and my momma.

My sister and I enjoying our Chili Chocolate cupcakes from 'Cupcake in a Box'
omnomnomnomnom

Like I said I was completely spoilt rotten, and I cannot begin to express my gratitude to Timothy and my family for making it an incredibly memorable birthday, and the best 21st a girl could ask for.
Thanks guys...

The Love Vintage Show

Two weekends ago, we went along to the Love Vintage Show at the Hordern Pavilion in Sydney. The traveling show comes to Sydney twice a year and never disappoints in producing the finest 50s vintage available in one place. Thankfully for our wallets neither Jesse or I are really into the 50s, and even more helpful for me is the majority of stalls focusing on women's clothing.

Day 1: Opening Night

Fellow bloggers Nora of Nora Finds, Emma of Emma aime, Tim and myself donned our fanciest of outfits and greeted guests at the door on the Friday night. Once our duties were fulfilled we were allowed to wander around the fair like children in a pet shop. So many goodies, some would even say too many goodies. Nevertheless we bumped into some wonderfully dressed people and a few familiar faces.

Like I said, Fanciest of Fancies.

Borrowed from Nora's blog

Deborah of The Vintage Drawer was also there, selling some gorgeous vintage pieces.

I fell a little in love with this caravan. It's always been a little dream of mine, albeit an impractical one, to road trip around Europe in one decked out like this. Ah, a girl can dream.

Seriously. I needs it.

So keen.

Our pal, Erin, who joined us for the evening. She walked away with a wonderful 1950's Mexican novelty print circle skirt.

Day 2: The Sunday.

Back again, this time for some modelling.

With our wonderfully dressed pal Regan.

I died a little when I saw this 1930's wedding gown with matching cape.

I got to model a 1950's wedding dress with a beautiful sequinned headpiece. So beautiful in fact that it was instantly bought off my head.

Sarah of Chronicles of an Eccentric and Nora were bridesmaids in matching 1950's dresses. They both looked divine!

The bridal party.

Also, here are some behind the scene snaps of our outfits for the 'Modern Vintage' parade that we also walked in.

Emma as a stunning 1960's Mad-menesque secretary

Sarah as a inebriated 1960's housewife.

Nora as a glam rock'n'roller of the 1980's.

And me. Classic 1940's jacket and dress suit combo. Trust.

Unfortunately we didn't have time to take photos of the modern transformations. Nor did I manage to capture a photo of Tim's 'preppy' look. My bad.

Make sure to check out more posts on the Love Vintage Fair on Nora's, Emma's and Sarah's blogs.

We had a great time, and being models was quite a hilarious experience. We're definitely looking forward to the next Vintage fair to be held later this year.
